Swansea, Wales - Mercoledì 16 Ottobre 2019 - The Big Conversation

On Wednesday 16th October 2019, Swansea Council’s Life Stages Team will be running one of their ‘Big Conversations’.

The Big Conversation is the name given to participation and engagement events that are facilitated by Swansea Council’s Life Stages Team. Big Conversations take place during the school day.

Participants set the priority topics for Big Conversations and it is the role of The Life Stages Team to arrange and facilitate workshops based on these priorities.

We run Big Conversations for 5-11 year old children, 11-18 year old young people and Inter-generational Big Conversations for anyone over the age of 7, including adults and older people.

Part of the working agreement of the Big Conversation is that the participants will return to their schools/groups after each event and share the work that they have completed with their peers; this could be via an assembly, a diary entry or a verbal report in school council meetings, a letter to governors etc…each school is encouraged to report back to their community in a way that suits them best.

On Wednesday 16th October 2019 we will be running The Big ‘Participation and Democracy’ Conversation for 5-11 year olds where the topics to be discussed will include Equalities, Voice, and Politics (meeting decision makers). Children will be offered the opportunity to discuss their morals and values, and work together to unpick concepts such as Discrimination, Diversity, and Zero Tolerance approaches. Children will also have the chance to meet with the elected councillor for Children’s rights and discussing the role of the council, party politics and having a say. There will also be an opportunity for children to read through and discuss a story book entitled “The Family That Learned To Listen” that was co-written by children and young people.

Children and their teachers will be invited to take photographs of themselves holding the posters advertising International Day for the Eradication of Poverty Oct 17th 2019 and uploading the pictures to social media sites.
